1. Definition of Water Resistance
Watches sold on Watchello come with different levels of water resistance. This rating indicates how well the watch is protected against moisture and water under certain conditions. According to ISO 22810:2010, every watch labeled “Water Resistant” must meet minimum sealing standards. Please note that water resistance is not permanent and may diminish over time due to aging seals or accidental shocks.
Water Resistance Ratings
Rating | Recommended Use | Suitable For |
---|---|---|
30mt / 3 ATM | 💧 Splash Proof | Handwashing, rain. Not suitable for showering or swimming. |
50mt / 5 ATM | 🚿 Shower / Snorkel | Showering (only with cold or lukewarm water), shallow swimming. |
100mt / 10 ATM | 🏊 Swim / Snorkel | Swimming in pools, surface water sports, snorkeling. |
200mt / 20 ATM | 🤿 Diving | Professional marine activity, scuba diving, water sports. |
Important Notes:
- Do not expose your watch to hot water (e.g. hot showers or saunas).
- Ensure the crown is fully pushed in or screwed down before exposure to water.
- Water resistance is based on static pressure; motion in water increases pressure.
- For frequent water exposure, watches rated 10 ATM or higher are recommended.

2. Practical Applications
30 m / 3 ATM – Protects against rain and handwashing. Not for submersion.
50 m / 5 ATM – Safe for showers and shallow swims, not for deep-water use.
100 m / 10 ATM – Suitable for swimming/snorkeling. Ideal for general water use.
200 m / 20 ATM+ – Perfect for water sports and recreational scuba diving. Look for ISO 6425 features.
3. What Makes a Watch Water Resistant
- Case-back type:
Snap-on ≤ 30 m
Screwed ≤ 100 m
Screw‑down + gasket → 200 m+ - Crown: Screw‑down crowns with gaskets are essential for swim/diving watches.
- Gasket O‑rings: Located in crown, case-back, and pushers to seal out water.
4. Choosing the Right Watch
- Daily wear: 30–50 m, with clean design and leather or silicone strap.
- Active lifestyle: 100 m+ with stainless steel or silicone bands.
- Water sports/diving: Diver’s watches with 200 m+, ISO 6425, screw‑down crown, and unidirectional bezel.
5. Care & Maintenance Tips
- Do not operate the crown or pushers underwater unless rated for it.
- Always rinse with fresh water after salt or chlorinated water exposure.
- Never use hot water for cleaning.
- Annual pressure tests and gasket checks recommended.
- Prefer silicone or metal straps for regular wet use—leather is not water-friendly.
6. Warranty, Damages & Defects
Watchello offers a 2-year warranty that covers manufacturing defects. Damages due to misuse, negligence, or unauthorized repairs are not covered.
Water damage due to incorrect use (e.g., crown open underwater, no maintenance, hot water exposure) is excluded from the warranty.
To maintain water resistance, have your watch inspected by our authorized service centre regularly.
Summary: Always check your watch’s water resistance rating, understand its real-world meaning, and take care of your watch to ensure both style and long-term performance.
