ORIENT Mako GMT BC00

The Orient Mako GMT BC00 marks a genuine first for the line: after decades as a diver-style watch, this is the first time Orient has given the Mako a second time zone. The GMT function follows one of the earliest mechanisms devised for the complication, in the 1950s: the 24-hour hand always moves in step with the regular hour hand and has no independent adjustment of its own — a second time zone is read by rotating the uni-directional, 24-hour bezel against it, the same method airline pilots relied on when this complication first reached commercial aviation. The bezel itself clicks through 120 notches and is colour-matched to each dial for a coordinated look. Housed in a 42.8mm stainless steel case (49.5mm lug to lug, 13.4mm thick) with a screw-down crown and screw-down caseback, the BC00 is water resistant to 20 bar (200 metres) — Orient notes this is not an ISO standard diver's watch — and fitted with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal over a dial with bar indices, a bold arrow-shaped hour hand, and a long diamond-tipped minute hand, both with high-intensity Luminous Light. A date window and the automatic in-house calibre F6P22 round out the specification, with +25 to -15 seconds a day of accuracy, over 40 hours of power reserve, hacking seconds, and 22 jewels. At Watchello the Mako GMT comes in four regular dial colours — black, green, navy blue and orange, each with a matching two-tone bezel — plus a limited edition of 4,000 pieces in a blue gradation dial Orient describes as reminiscent of the sky seen from a plane, with its own serial number engraved on the caseback alongside the Mako family's dolphin icon. Every version is fitted to a SUS316L stainless steel bracelet with a trifold deployant buckle, push-button release, and security latch.
